School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS)

SWPBIS

Multnomah Elementary promotes a positive behavior support approach to handling behavioral errors.  We have a team that includes, the principal, parents, students, teachers and classified personnel who have worked collaboratively to design our school policy in alignment with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

We use the Second Step Program to teach anger management and problem solving. In addition, the "Habits of Mind" will be used to teach good life habits. We are also implementing Restorative Justice circles.

Students will learn eating etiquette in the cafeteria at the beginning of the year during lunch time from school staff.  Teachers will teach the rules of the playground area before they are assigned to the area. New games will be played to offer more diversity and increase student interest. Teachers and staff will learn updated classroom management and behavior management techniques.

Your support is required for consistency.

POSITIVE INCENTIVES

When extrinsic motivation is used, we reward good behavior in the following way:

  • White Eagles tickets given to students caught being good, names announced over PA every Monday during raffle drawing and prize awards.
  • Gold Eagles tickets given to entire class for collaborative exemplary behavior. Incremental class prizes.
